Nature of the Organization
Capital District Respite, Inc. (CDR) is a 501 (c) (3) not- for- profit organization designed to serve the charitable purposes of providing respite, which is a break from the daily demands of care giving for the families of children, teenagers, young adults and other individuals with special needs and to develop life skills such as positive manners and behavior in a structured setting by matching such individuals with trained providers, which can enhance the quality of life, their families and the community and decrease the out of home placements; and to encourage and support such children, to pursue interests and activities which can engage them in a positive and productive way in the community. All children served reside at home with a parent, guardian, group home or foster family.
Capital District Respite, Inc. bases its services on the New York State Office of Mental Health’s Individualized Care Model, which focuses on the family’s strengths.
The service is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual family. Capital District Respite, Inc. works in partnership with the referring agency and the family to design a specific, cost-effective plan to meet the identified needs of the child and the family.
We strive to be action-oriented and innovative while assisting families to remain intact. We evaluate our services and continually improve upon them.
Capital District Respite, Inc. is flexible in that services are provided according to the schedule of the family. Capital District Respite, Inc. continuously monitors services to ensure that the family is satisfied and provides flex funds for children’s activities.
